we made it!

We made it. And believe it or not, it wasn’t that bad. I will admit that during the flight I took notice of the MANY young children who were traveling and who were also perfect angels. For reals. All the kids were great on our FULL flight. It made me jealous as I know we’ll be the one screaming kid on the way home. Oh well, I’ll never see those people again, right?

We flew on Korean Air and honestly, I think I prefer Singapore Airlines. Sure, Singapore isn’t as cute as Korean Air, but I’m pretty sure their seats recline more and have a bit more room. But I won’t complain, it was a good flight over all.

Right now we’re incredibly exhausted. It’s actually 5am back home and boy are we feeling it. We’re trying to hang on so we can skype with the kids, but I don’t think we can make it. We’ll have to do an afternoon call.

Since everything is pretty much closed right now, for dinner we went to the Mini-Mart and got some kimchi ramen. Bob picked up some chip type thing that we thought was going to be spicy but turned out to be sweet. And I LOVE them. So I’ll definitely be back for more! Oh, I’ll leave you with a funny conversation Bob had a few minutes ago. He asked if one of the restaurants listed on some brochure we had delivered – and I told him I didn’t know. So he called … and this is what I heard:

Hi – I was wondering if you delivered?

… oh … ah … I guess I should ask instead, do you speak English?

ah … um … sorry – good bye!

And he hung up. Ha Ha.

yes, we are definitely in a different country!

Dude! You left without me! 😉 I’ll be thinking of you all day. Hope you all can rest. We arrived there at 5am also. Ugggg.. but you’re there, you are really there!!! So excited for you guys! Enjoy! Eat! and just simmer!! :)

Jineui - May 29, 2012 - 4:51 pm

Where are you staying??? When do you get your boy?!! When are you coming home?? The anticipation is killing me!! Keep writing! Can’t wait to see you! all of you!

and away we go!

Last week, I was wondering if I’d even make it to Korea by the middle of June. Tonight, I’m sitting in a hotel room that’s less than a mile from the San Francisco International Airport. And tomorrow, I’ll be boarding a non-stop, 12.5 hour flight that will take me to the Land of the Morning Calm (but I’ll get there in the evening).  It’s amazing what can happen in a matter of days.

Speaking of which, the past 48 hours have been a blur. I’ve been going non-stop, getting last minute donations, checking and re-checking the ‘gift list’ and buying last minute items that I seem to feel I can’t travel without. But somehow, regardless of all the chaos, and the shifting of items amongst 4 suitcases, 2 carry-ons and 2 bags … we are at last, ready to go.

The kiddos are super happy up at my parents house and I’m not worried about them in the slightest. Our house sitter has ‘moved in’ and even though the ‘To Do List’ has been completed, I still feel like I’ve forgotten something – but that’s normal, right?

Anyway, I feel like there should be more for me to talk about, but I’m just so incredibly exhausted. I’m planning on going to sleep here in a few, and then sleeping-in, in the morning. We’ll head over to the airport around 11am, so I’m sure I’ll have some time to kill … and maybe I can get my thoughts together then.

So I’ll leave you with a picture of my sweet Claire’s feet. She went with me today to get a pedicure (her first) and her’s turned out SUPER CUTE. Mine … well … not so much. But hey, we can’t win them all, right?!

Incredibly happy for you and Bob!!!!!!!

Leah - May 28, 2012 - 6:51 pm

Love C’s little feet! So adorable! I can totally imagine your thoughts right now. I bet it’s such a great feeling knowing Bob is going with you this time. Best wishes, smooth transitions and above all an awesome flight home. Can’t wait to hear about the ugly cry! :)

Cindy - May 28, 2012 - 8:22 pm

So exciting! Looking forward to following your trip and seeing that sweet boy in your arms! Enjoy every second of the trip!

let’s do this thing!

So many days have gone by since I last blogged. I’m happy to say that I’ve been rather productive, even though I haven’t completed everything on my ‘To Do’ List (but does it ever really get completed?) And during that time, I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t wondered when our Travel Call would come. As the days ticked by we found things to fill up our time.

… like playing outside in the nice weather …

… eating snacks that you find completely addictive …

… watching your oldest graduate from Pre-School and wonder where the time has gone …

… and looking at a picture of your little man every day … wondering when he’ll come home …

I’ll admit … there were days in the not so recent past that were getting a bit difficult. It can be hard to see others get their Travel Calls, or their VI’s scheduled (Visa Interviews) and yours is no where in sight. At the same time, you keep reminding yourself that you’re extremely fortunate to even BE in the position you are: just waiting for your Travel Call. So you basically spend most of your day in a mental war, as you try and live life at the same time.

And then that moment happens … when you hear those magical words, ‘your son is ready to travel‘. And all of the sudden time seems to fly by and you don’t have enough hours in the day to get all the millions of things done that suddenly seem to appear.

but I did make time to get my hair done.

So now I’m REALLY going to get back to blogging, as I actually have something to blog about now! I loved writing about my last trip to Korea and I’m hoping to have so many more fun memories. Which I know I will, as Bob is going with me this time. The kiddos are going to my parents (which they are THRILLED about) and I’m going to be busy these next couple of days tying up all the loose ends before we leave. Which by the way, we’re leaving on Monday, and we’re getting Callahan on Friday. Can you believe it?!?!

So happy for you guys and excited that Bob is going also!

I love reading your blog! So, yeah, I’ll be stalking you everywhere! Um, that is, on the internet! So don’t worry, won’t be showing up at your door, like a crazed stalker. I live too far away for that! Blessing, prayers, and all that mushy stuff! <3

So happy for your family Rachel :)
I can’t wait to see pics of your three adorable kids all together!

Productivity

In my mind I was soooo gung-ho on getting all this stuff done before Callahan comes home. But my body didn’t agree. I got sick. I’m actually not surprised because after I finish any intense projects, my body seems to know when I’m done, and just completely shuts down. Today though … it was bad. Probably the worst I’ve been in a while because I woke up with a raging headache. Like I’m pretty sure I’d call it a migraine, but since I also think I was going thru major caffeine withdrawls, I’m kind of on the fence. Regardless, it was a ROUGH day. I’m so thankful to my neighbor and my parents who helped me out while Bob was working. Seriously – I was down for the count.

But these crazy kiddos of mine didn’t seem to mind. I will say, there is nothing SWEETER than hearing your 5 year old daughter praying in the kitchen to God that He will make her Momma feel better. And then to top it off, said daughter comes into the living room where you’re sprawled on the couch and starts rubbing your foot with the hopes that it’ll help. I LOVE that girl! Somebody take her Target!

But in a way she kind of owes me since her and the boy destroyed the kitchen and dumped a ton of pre-cut fabric I had in a bin on the floor. But hey. We all survived, right?

So now that my brain is starting to work again, I’m back to making mental lists of everything I need to accomplish. I want to reorganize a ton of different spaces, and the crazy thing, is that I actually think I’ll get everything done. I’m not expecting a travel call in the next few days … heck not in the next week! So I’m thinking there’s still some decent time left. One of the things I’m going to do is have a ‘One Day Sale’ in my ‘Shop’ on May 11th. I’m sure I’ll post another ‘shout out’ on the ol’ blog, but the reason for this sale is so I can raise some $$$ for donations to bring to our Agency. I know a lot of people bring rice cereal and puffs and things of that nature, so I’m hoping to be able to bring some of the other things that are needed … maternity clothes, medications, toddler clothes – stuff like that. If anyone is interested in sending donations for me to take – just let me know! I can give you more information on what is needed.

Tomorrow Bob has to work again (it’s his weekend on) and I have to say, I’m a bit nervous to see what the morning brings. I’m SOOO hoping that I don’t wake up with another headache, but you never know. But what I DO know, is every day I wake up,  it brings me one day closer to this guy!

Leah - May 6, 2012 - 8:13 am

Would love to donate! Keep us posted and I’ll be on the look out! Seriously! Can’t wait to follow along! :)

Jen - May 20, 2012 - 6:28 pm

I saw your post on the HBB, wanted to see what was new so followed you over. I didn’t know you were EP submitted! YAY! Hope you’re traveling soon! And I swear, you should just box up all of your daughters clothes and send them to me. I can not get over her style. 😉 (Remember, I aske you long ago where you shopped for them and now I can’t rememeber.) She’s a DOLL!! Lucky little girl! Lucky mama!!

Yawn … Stretch … Let’s Back on this thing!

Okay. So I took a break. Lots has been going on these past few months and I won’t bore you with the details as it wasn’t all that exciting, but life is starting to calm down … or is it? This morning I woke up to super fabulous news – our ‘EP’ was approved! I know, no-one knew we were submitted.

But now that we’re in the homestretch, I’m getting more excited. Its feels way more real, and now I can actually get the kids pumped up. We used to talk about Callahan a lot but then Claire didn’t understand why he wasn’t coming home. Or why he wasn’t meeting us for dinner, or coming back to our house. I made the decision to stop talking about him. On occasion I’d show the kids Cal’s picture and ask them who it was – and they would answer with the correct response, and then we’d move on. It was too much for their brains to comprehend, so I just backed off. But now? Oh no, GAME ON! We are about to get all ‘Callahan’d’  up in here!

So back to blogging I am. And I’m actually really looking forward to it. It gives me something to do and I get to ‘document’ our life in the process. It’s a win/win in my book … unless you find me completely boring. Which I wouldn’t blame you if you did … but the cool thing is that I’ll never know (unless you leave me a comment saying so … but please don’t leave me a comment saying so … ).

Jill - May 2, 2012 - 9:45 pm
